The hybrid Tonale uses a 1.3-liter gas engine combined with a rear-driving electric motor to deliver a total of 240 horsepower. There will also be an ultra-low emissions gasoline-only model that uses a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine. Smaller than the Stelvio, the Tonale offers a unique design that blends futuristic elements with references to the automaker's past glories. For example, while the Tonale incorporates the "phone dial" wheels of the old 33 Stradale, it also uses an all-new infotainment system.

The traditional DNA drive mode selector remains, but with a different menu of options. Drivers unlock the vehicle's full electric capabilities with the Advance E setting. The traditional "Dynamic" mode is replaced with "Dual Power," using both motors for maximum effect. Advance E puts the vehicle in rear-wheel drive, while Dual Power or other modes that mix both powerplants offer all-wheel drive performance.
